WHAT DOES A POLYGRAPH TEST INCLUDE?

The polygraph test consists of three stages, the pre-test interview, the test, and the chart analysis. During the pre-test interview, the examiner explains the polygraph process to the examinee and reviews the questions to be administered on the test. The examinee is attached to the polygraph instrument which measures the physiological responses to each question on the test. The examiner analyses the responses and submits their findings to the client.

WHY A POLYGRAPH TEST?

The polygraph is a valuable tool in enhancing security and maintaining ethical standards across multiple fields. It is an excellent investigative tool and a strong deterrent against white-collar crime, especially in the hands of a well-trained examiner. It can be rapidly deployed and able to deliver an objective result. While the polygraph is not infallible it is, however, particularly useful as confessions and incriminating testimony given during the process are arguably admissible.

Captain Basil A. Bewry,

CPP, PCI, PSP

A distinguished expert in the field of security and investigations, with over four decades of demonstrable industry experience. Known for his exceptional investigative skills, Capt. Bewry has long developed a reputation for uncovering the truth and providing invaluable insights across a wide range of multidisciplinary fields.

Capt. Bewry is a graduate of the prestigious Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, United Kingdom. His decorated career began in 1978 when he joined the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), as a Queen’s Commissioned Officer serving in the Infantry, Military Police and Military Intelligence Unit. During his eleven (11) years of service Capt. Bewry was awarded the Medal of Honour, General Service for his work with US Army Intelligence during the Caribbean Peacekeeping Operations in Grenada in 1983-84. He also served as Managing Director of Atlas Protection (Ocho Rios) Limited between 1991 and 2015.

In 1999 Capt. Bewry graduated with a Diploma in Forensic Psychophysiology from the world-renown Backster School of Lie Detection in San Diego, California and accepted into the American Polygraph Association. In 2001 he successfully completed the John E. Reid & Associates’ Course in Advanced Interviewing and Interrogation Techniques. This gave way to him establishing Forensic Polygraph Services in 2001 and has to-date administered over 10,000 polygraph tests. In 2002 he was invited to join the World Association of Detectives Incorporated.

Since 2005, Capt. Bewry has been a member of ASIS International, the world’s largest membership organisation for security professionals, headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia. He is the recipient of its globally recognised Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Professional Certified Investigator (PCI), and Physical Security Professional (PSP) designations. He is currently a Director of the Latin America and Caribbean Regional Board having previously served as Chairman of ASIS Jamaica Chapter from 2005 to 2008 and from 2012 to 2019. In 2016 he was bestowed the ASIS Professional Certification Board Regional Award of Appreciation and in 2018 the ASIS Meritorious Service Award. In 2020 he was the recipient of the coveted E. J. Criscuoli Jr., CPP Volunteer Leadership of the Year Award for being the ASIS member who had exhibited selfless devotion at the volunteer level and for his significant contributions at the chapter and regional levels over an extended period of time.
